Tango show in Buenos Aires: with or without dinner?

The show is the same on every tier, so what you are really choosing is the transfer, the drinks, the table and the length of the night.

Short answer

Buy dinner only if you want what comes with it. At several houses the dinner tiers are also the ones with the hotel transfer, the open bar and the better table, and the basic ticket has none of those. Show only starts from €22.71 and keeps the night to about two hours, while a dinner tier means a pickup at around 19:00 and roughly four hours out.

How the tiers work

Seven of the eight houses in the catalogue sell the evening in tiers: the show alone, the show with dinner, and one or more VIP levels. Café Tortoni is the exception, with one ticket and no dinner format.

The performance runs 75 to 105 minutes and does not change with the tier. The catalogue publishes only the lowest price per house, read on 4 October 2026, so the dinner and VIP prices have to be compared on the booking page for your date. As a guide to the spread, La Ventana's own site lists US$70 for the show alone and up to US$190 for dinner, show and wine tasting.

What the entry ticket buys at each house

The cheapest ticket is not the same product from one house to the next. Two houses include the transfer even at entry level, and two include drinks.

  • Madero Tango: from €22.71. Shared side table for up to 10, no food or drink. Show at 21:00.
  • Palacio Tango: from €29.71. Two drinks and an optional 25-minute class at 20:00. Show at 22:00.
  • Tango Porteño: from €35.53. No transport and no drinks. Show from 21:30 to 23:15.
  • El Viejo Almacén: from €44.41. The show alone, from 22:00 to 23:30.
  • Café Tortoni: from €44.41. One ticket type, with no food, drink or pickup.
  • El Querandí: from €62.18. No transport. Show from 21:30 to 22:45.
  • La Ventana: from €62.18. Hotel transfer and a bottle of wine for two included.
  • Café de los Angelitos: from €93.27. Hotel pickup and return included.

What dinner does to the clock

Dinner is served before the show, at 20:00 to 20:30, and pickups begin as early as 18:45. A dinner tier therefore means about four hours out of the hotel for 75 to 105 minutes of performance.

El Querandí shows the pattern clearly: pickup at 18:45, show at 21:30, end at 22:45. At Tango Porteño dinner is at 20:30 and pickups run between 19:15 and 20:30 depending on the area. At Café de los Angelitos the pickup is at 20:00 with dinner or 21:30 for the show alone, and the return reaches hotels at around 23:30.

What the upper tiers buy besides food

At Tango Porteño every tier above the basic one adds hotel pickup and return plus an open bar, and one of those tiers has no dinner, only two empanadas. El Querandí has a similar middle tier with return transport, drinks and a starter or dessert. El Viejo Almacén sells the show with two drinks and pickup. These are worth a look if the transfer is what you want and the meal is not.

At Madero Tango the tier also sets where you sit. Show only is a shared table at the side of the stage, the upper tiers move you towards the centre, and private tables in front of the stage exist only on the top tier, called Black. Palacio Tango works differently: dinner and transfer are separate add-ons that you combine as you like.

So the fair comparison is a dinner tier against a show ticket plus two taxis, your drinks and a restaurant meal eaten by about 20:30.

Transfers and the ride home

Shows end between about 22:20 at Madero Tango and 23:30 at El Viejo Almacén and Palacio Tango. If you book a tier without transfer, arrange the ride home before you go.

Transfers have limits. La Ventana and Palacio Tango collect from hotels in the centre and Palermo, and La Ventana tells guests in rented flats or other areas to go to the venue. At Tango Porteño you must book by 17:00 on the day to get the outbound pickup. Pickup times can drift, by up to 30 minutes at La Ventana, so wait for the operator's confirmation.

Common questions

Which tango shows include the hotel transfer on every ticket?

La Ventana and Café de los Angelitos. At Tango Porteño, El Querandí and El Viejo Almacén the transfer starts from the second tier, and at Madero Tango from the third. At Palacio Tango it is a paid add-on. Café Tortoni offers none.

How long is a tango night with dinner?

About four hours from pickup to the end of the show, and longer once the return drive is counted. The show itself is 75 minutes at El Querandí and La Ventana, about 90 at most houses and 105 at Tango Porteño.

Can I cancel a tango dinner show?

All eight allow free cancellation, with different deadlines: 2 hours before at La Ventana, 12 hours at Madero Tango, 24 hours at most others, and 3 days at Café de los Angelitos. Palacio Tango refunds 50% between 24 and 12 hours before.
