Our pick, by who is going

First time in the city

Teatro Flamenco Madrid

Teatro Flamenco Madrid has the best mix of volume and score on the list (846 reviews, 9.3 out of 10), a fixed 60-minute show from €32, three or four sessions a day and free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Nothing about it needs planning around.

Essential Flamenco

We cannot judge which room aficionados prefer, so this pick rests on format: Essential Flamenco plays in a brick cellar with no microphones, sells one ticket type and no dinner. If history matters more to you than room size, Corral de la Morería has been open since 1956.

A night for two

Corral de la Morería

Corral de la Morería is the one house here built around a table for the evening: the show comes with a drink, dinner is an optional set menu, and nobody under 7 is admitted. Cancellation closes 48 hours before, so fix the date first.

With children

Torres Bermejas

Torres Bermejas has the earliest sessions (17:00 daily, 15:00 at weekends), admits all ages, and the venue says under-4s go free and ages 4 to 12 pay half. The catalogue lists it as not wheelchair accessible, so ask the house before bringing a pushchair.

Anyone looking for the best flamenco show in Madrid finds the same problem: every house says it is the one. We have not sat in these rooms, so this page does not rank the dancing. It compares what can be checked: what a flamenco show in Madrid costs, how long it runs, how many people share the room, whether you have to eat, and how late you can cancel.

The partner catalogue lists five houses in Madrid, all seated performances of about an hour, with prices from €15 to roughly €50 before food. Three well-known tablaos (Cardamomo, Tablao de la Villa and Las Carboneras) are not in that catalogue, so they are not compared here. That is a gap in the list. It says nothing about those houses.

Before you choose

How the houses differ here

  1. Start with the size and shape of the room, because that is where the Madrid houses differ most. Teatro Flamenco Madrid is a theatre with rows of seats and room for up to 220 people. Corral de la Morería is a restaurant-tablao with tables for about 140. Essential Flamenco is a brick cellar under a building near Sol, and the venue says there are no microphones. Torres Bermejas and Ópera Flamenca do not publish a capacity.

  2. Then decide about food before you look at prices. Nobody on this list forces you to eat. Torres Bermejas sells the show alone, with a drink, or with a tapas menu served during the performance. Corral de la Morería sells the show alone or with one of five set menus. The other three are show-only tickets, two of them with a drink. If you would rather eat in a normal restaurant afterwards, the earlier sessions at 17:00, 18:00 or 19:00 leave you at the door by Madrid dinner time.

  3. Seating is the small print that changes the evening. At Teatro Flamenco Madrid the standard ticket means row 5 or further back, seats are not numbered and the house fills them in order of arrival, so the cheap ticket rewards whoever turns up early. The dearer rate there buys the first four rows and a drink. Torres Bermejas and Ópera Flamenca also sell a front-area rate. Essential Flamenco has a single price.

  4. Last, the practical limits. Corral de la Morería does not admit children under 7 and wants 48 hours' notice to cancel, against 24 hours everywhere else. Ópera Flamenca sets its minimum age at 3. Torres Bermejas and Essential Flamenco are listed as not wheelchair accessible. No house publishes a dress code on the pages we read.

Plan

The evening, step by step

  1. Before the show

The sessions at 17:00, 18:00 and 19:00 end by about 20:15, which leaves dinner for afterwards. With a start at 20:45 or later, eat first, or take the tapas menu at Torres Bermejas or a set menu at Corral de la Morería. Dinner is optional at both.

  2. Arriving

The margin asked runs from 10 minutes (Essential Flamenco, Corral de la Morería, Ópera Flamenca) to 30 at Teatro Flamenco Madrid. The theatre opens its doors an hour before and fills unnumbered seats in order of arrival, so that is the house where being early pays. Essential Flamenco publishes no seating rule.

  3. During the show

The performance lasts 60 to 75 minutes. We found no published interval or photo rule at any of the five, so ask before filming. Essential Flamenco says it uses no microphones, and at Torres Bermejas the tapas menu is served while the show is on.

  4. Getting back

All five houses are in the centre, near Noviciado, Sol or La Latina metro. The latest sessions start at 21:30 and end before 23:00, and the last metro trains leave at 1:30. After that the night buses, known as búhos, set out from Plaza de Cibeles.

Where

Where the houses are

Malasaña and Conde Duque

Two neighbouring districts north of Gran Vía, both served by Noviciado metro (line 2). Teatro Flamenco Madrid is a theatre with rows for up to 220 on Calle del Pez. Ópera Flamenca, on Calle del Norte, is a tablao five minutes on foot from the same station.

Sol and Gran Vía

The middle of the city, where most visitors are already staying or walking. Torres Bermejas is on Calle de Mesonero Romanos, between the two, and sells a tapas rate. Essential Flamenco is a brick cellar on Calle de la Cruz, nearest metro Sol, with a single price that includes a drink.

La Latina

The old quarter south-west of Sol, with its own metro station. Corral de la Morería is the one house here: a restaurant-tablao with tables for about 140, sessions at 19:30 and 21:30, and no entry for children under 7.

Common questions

How long is a flamenco show in Madrid?

About an hour. Teatro Flamenco Madrid, Torres Bermejas and Ópera Flamenca all list 60 minutes, Corral de la Morería lists 70, and Essential Flamenco lists 75 including the welcome drink and a short introduction before the one-hour performance. Add the arrival margin each house asks for, which runs from 10 to 30 minutes.

Is dinner with the flamenco show worth it in Madrid?

It is never compulsory, so it comes down to what you want from the evening. At Torres Bermejas the food is a tapas menu served while the show is on, which saves time but splits your attention. At Corral de la Morería dinner is one of five set menus and the venue also runs a separate Michelin-starred restaurant with four tables. If the show is the point, book the show-only rate and eat afterwards.

Do I need to book a flamenco show in Madrid in advance?

For the small rooms, yes. Essential Flamenco is a cellar and Corral de la Morería seats about 140, so a given session can sell out. Teatro Flamenco Madrid has up to 220 places and several sessions a day, which makes a late booking more likely to work. Booking early costs you little, since four of the five houses refund in full up to 24 hours before.

Can children go to a flamenco show in Madrid?

At most houses, yes. Torres Bermejas, Teatro Flamenco Madrid and Essential Flamenco list no minimum age and sell child rates. Ópera Flamenca admits children from 3. Corral de la Morería does not admit anyone under 7. For young children, look at the 17:00 or 18:00 sessions.

What should I wear to a flamenco show in Madrid?

None of the five houses publishes a dress code on the pages we checked. Corral de la Morería is a sit-down restaurant as well as a tablao, so dress as you would for dinner out. If in doubt, ask the house when you book.

Can I cancel a flamenco show ticket?

Yes, on every show listed here. Four houses give a full refund up to 24 hours before the start. Corral de la Morería needs 48 hours. After the deadline, or if you do not turn up, nothing is refunded.
